A recap of some of last week.

During science, students had fun colouring the snow. They even made snow volcanos!

We have begun to explore the importance of brushing our teeth. We used eggs and soaked them in a variety of drinks overnight. Students were interested to see how much the drinks stained the eggs. Then we tried to brush off the stain.

It is always so great to see what students choose during our purposeful play time. The room gets very busy during these times but it’s always a great time of building, creative play, dramatic play and crafting.

We had such a great time in the gym with balloons!

Every day is such a joy with our students. We are so proud of them all.

Fun pictures from our week.

Trying out a new sticker by numbers book.

We still try to get lots of time outside. Students love painting the snow, playing on the snow hills and making new piles with our shovels.

We all had a great time at the dance education sessions!

Here a few of our language centres from the week. If you get a chance, try out Raz Kids at home. It is so fun!

This and That

Check out the fun our students get to have in Science! Thanks, Mrs. Teeter!

We practice writing a couple times a week. We keep most of the writing at school because we glue it into their journals which will go home at the end of the year. It’s so fun to look back and see how much they have learned and developed in their Language skills!

Building is a big deal in our class. There are always a couple groups of students building cool structures during our play periods. Here are a couple from this week.

In the pictures below, students are playing “can you guess my shape”.

Math is extra fun when you get to paint shapes!!!

Nice to be back!

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday. It was so nice to see our students Monday morning! We have fallen back into routine very easily.

In Math this week, we are focusing on shapes. In the pictures below students created their own houses using various shapes. We also had a great lesson where students worked together to make shapes using their bodies. Key shapes we are learning are; square, circle, rectangle and hexagon.

The sun peeked out on Tuesday so we took the opportunity for some extra outside exploration.

In Science, Mrs. Teeter has created some amazing snow buckets for students to enjoy. I will post some pictures of the crystals the students are growing later in the week.

In Language, we will continue to practice our letter and sight word recognition daily. We have also been enjoying doing shared reading together and exploring word families. Please continue to read with your child at home. Also, consider using the Raz Kids program we offer through the school.

A busy week ahead!

This is our last week at school before the Christmas holidays. We have some special activities planned for this week.

Tuesday – Business Fair. The grade 6 students will be partnering with us when the fair opens on Tuesday morning. They will help students spend their money at the fair. Some of the items being sold include; treats, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, Christmas ornaments, handmade board games and cheese boards. Please feel free to join us as well on Tuesday morning to enjoy this great event. All money raised goes towards helping our grade 8’s pay for their special grade 8 trip. Due to the fair, chicken nuggets will be coming on Wednesday instead.

Wednesday – carol singing in the gym. Chicken nuggets will be coming today instead of yesterday.

Thursday – Empathy assembly at 9:15. Carol singing in the gym. Santa will be visiting from 1:30 – 2:30 today to accept items donated for My Friends House. Please refer to note we sent home last week regarding this.

Friday – PJ day!!! I’m pretty excited about this one. 🙂 Periods 1 and 2 we will watch a Christmas movie being put on by the Leadership team. We will also be enjoying a special treat that we will be making together in class! Just a quick reminder that we are asking for no treats to be sent in to the class for Christmas. We want to keep our classroom a safe place to be for all of our students. Below is a picture of what we will be making together.

Grinch Fruit Kabobs!

It will be a fun packed week!

Great job!

Before the concert….

We are so excited for our students. They worked very hard learning our poem and two songs. Well done to everyone!!

In the class this week……

This was a pretty awesome ramp! Great teamwork.

In Math, we are learning about positional words like in, out, over, under, through, near and far.

Cut and paste activities help build our fine motor skills.

Putting beads on these pipe cleaners was not easy but we did a great job. Hopefully, some of these creations made it home for your trees!

It’s December!

This week we have been busy! After watching a short video on how igloos were made, students were challenged to create their own igloos using building materials in the classroom. When we get some more snow we can try this outside!

In math, students are enjoying working with partners to find the probability of an event happening. They have been rolling coloured dice and then recording how many times they got each colour. We are using language like probable, likely and unlikely.

Below are some of the language centres we have enjoyed this week. We work daily on learning our letters, their sounds and new sight words.

And of course, outside time is one of our favourites! Love getting out in the fresh air to explore our surroundings and play cooperatively with peers.
